The School of Computing (SoC) offers a vast variety of domain to learn. It comprises of six major headings such as Computer Science and Engineering which offers programmes such as Bachelor of Technology specialising in Computer Science and Engineering, and Masters of Technology specialising in Computer Science and Engineering and it also offers a specialising course in (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, CyberSecurity & Forensic, Internet of Things & Smart Cities, Big Data Analytics) Information Technology which offers the most prominent programmes such as Bachelor of Science specialising in Information Technology, and Bachelor of Technology specialising in the domain of Information Technology Network Engineering which offers the most highlighted program in the advance field of engineering i.e. Masters of Technology specialising in Network Engineering, Computer Science which offers the most foundational program in the domain of Computer Science such as Bachelor of Science specialising in Computer Science, Data Science which offers advance program of Masters of Science in Data Science, and the last heading is Computer Application which offers

Why Computer Science and Engineering

Department of Computer Science and Engineering was established in the year 1984. In 1995 the Department became the first self-finance engineering college department in south India to offer M.E (CSE). Based on the infrastructure and faculty strength the department was recognized as research centre by Anna University in 2003 to offer M.S (by Research) and PhD programs in the area of computer Science and Engineering. Recently B.Tech. Computer Science and Engineering programme is accredited by NBA under Tier 1 category(Outcome Based Education) as per Washington Accord.

The department has well equipped laboratory facilities including Web programming, Distributed Computing, Programming Languages, Software development, Open source Technologies laboratories to provide the practical training to the students. Also, the students are given the opportunity to work in the Network Technology and Network Security Laboratories attached with the TIFAC-CORE in Network Engineering. Highly qualified and experienced faculty with specialization in Data Mining, Image Processing, Software Engineering, Natural language processing, Web Technology, Embedded systems, Evolutionary computing, Network Technology and Distributed Computing are working in the department.

The Students are given exposure to latest trends in technology including Embedded system design, Big Data Analytics, Image Processing, Extreme Programming, Software Testing, Sensor Networks, Cloud Computing, Soft Computing etc. through workshops, guest lectures and seminars. The department offers many value added educational programs and Certification programs to the students including CCNA, Security+, Sun Java, RedHat Linux Certification, etc. The department in association with the Computer Society of India and IEEE Student branch regularly organizes workshops, seminars and technical talks for the benefit of students and the staff. The department has close interaction with leading industries and educational Institutions. Many projects were carried out in association with leading software industries and research laboratories including Naturesoft, Pentasoft, Hexaware, CTS, HCL, Sathyam, IGCAR, CECRI, CLRI, Ramco Systems, Wipro, TCS, Flextronics, etc.

Why Information Technology

Established in the year 1998, the department of Information Technology is offering B.Tech. programme in Information Technology(IT). The programme B.Tech Information Technology mainly deals with installing, maintaining, improving computer systems, operating networks and databases. In short IT deals with application of computing technology to real life processes by creating technical solutions to business problems. The B.Tech. Information Technology programme approved by AICTE, New Delhi and also by ABET, Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, an International accreditation board, USA.

The department has fine-tuned syllabus matching the latest industry needs by offering courses like Data Science, Deep Learning, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things and Embedded systems, AWS, Azure web services etc. The department is constantly striving to attain excellence in academics, teaching, innovation, industry-oriented research, and consulting work with service to society.

Research Capability

Promoting the research culture and innovation, the department is constantly engaged in different projects funded through different funding agencies.
The department has already completed two projects from DST Govt. of India, one project from DST-IEDC. Currently seven projects funded from different funding agencies is under progress. More than 13 Scholars completed Ph.D. and 10 are currently working on different research projects.
11 patents were contributed from the department and 255+ SCI/Scopus indexed journals were published from the department over the past three years.

Why CS & IT

Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education launched its Computer Science and Information Technology programs to meet the global needs of industrial world. With this aim, Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Information Technology programs were offered from the year 2014, Master of Computer Science and Data Science from the year 2018, B.Sc (Hons.) Computer Science, B.Sc (Hons.) Information Technology and B.Sc Computer Science (Cognitive Systems) in the year of 2021. These Programs aims to attract bright students throughout country for quality education at under-graduate and post-graduate level. The Computer Applications program is designed to provide the skills needed in the use of application software on a computer. Applications covered include word processing, spreadsheets, databases, desktop publishing, the Internet, and the Windows operating systems. Courses will provide the student skills to work in various office settings.
IT sector has spread all over the World in such a way that its root became deep. The entire world is revolving around Information Technology. India is now moving towards computer applications for almost all activities in our daily life.
