The school offers 4 bachelor courses (Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering and Aeronautical and Civil Engineering) and 5 masters courses (industrial safety engineering, manufacturing engineering, farm equipment and machinery and automotive system engineering, structural engineering and environmental engineering). The school updates their curriculum in order to meet the requirements of the current scenario.

The school offers 4 bachelor courses (Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Automobile and Civil Engineering) and 3 masters courses (Industrial Safety Engineering, manufacturing engineering, farm equipment and machinery and automotive system engineering).

Why Mechanical Engineering
Established in the year 1984, the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education is one of the oldest and the most prominent departments, dedicated to building a strong fundamental foundation and a thorough engineering orientation. It ensures to provide its students with an effective learning experience with state-of-the-art laboratories, experienced faculty, and thought-provoking teaching pedagogy. The curriculum is highly demanding and thoughtfully designed to incorporate all the latest development in the field. The department is constantly striving to attain excellence in academics, teaching, innovation, industry-oriented research, and consulting work with service to society. The programme is accredited by NBA for six years under the Tier-I category of the Washington Accord. The programme is also accredited by ABET, an international accreditation body for engineering and technical education.B.Tech Mechanical engineering programme is offered in collaboration with SIEMENS.

The department offers a B.Tech program in Mechanical Engineering and M.Tech program in Industrial Safety Engineering. The Courses have been created by a specialized team of academics and all the B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering programme is offered in collaboration with SIEMENS. The students of Mechanical Engineering are trained with SAP training. The curriculum of Mechanical engineering aims at creating the right mindset which ensures the creation of innovative, thoughtful, and socially aware engineers. We believe in the practical nature of the domain and focus on learning by doing it practically. The department has active and vibrant students’ chapters of major professional bodies such as the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and the National Safety Council (NSC) India. Through these societies, students get a hands-on experience of real-world challenges and a platform for organizing, participating, and developing engineering dreams. The Department also has a dynamic coordinating section completely dedicated to student’s Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Patents. Students are regularly participating in the “National and International events” to ensure a smooth and effective practical learning experience, the Mechanical Engineering department at Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education has established Robert Bosch Center of Excellence, Materials Processing Laboratory, Advanced Machining & Measurement Laboratory, and Machine Dynamics & Condition Monitoring Laboratory under Level 1 of the DST-FIST program (Fund for Improvement of Science & Technology Infrastructure in Universities & Higher Educational Institutions).

Research Capability

The department is equipped with research centres such as the Centre for Composite Materials, Centre for Advanced Thermal Studies, Centre for BioComposites, and Centre for Surface Engineering for students to carry out in-depth research activities and learn practically which helps the undergraduate students to get exposure and experience in the advanced machines. The department has funded research projects in the area of Optimization Studies, Composite Materials, Machining Studies, Supersonic Flow, Heat transfer, and CO2 sequestration by DST, DRDO, AICTE and International funding agencies. The department receives regular funding from many prestigious organisations working in the field of Science and Technology. The department currently has 9 ongoing research projects with total funding of INR. 1,81,67,690 and completed 12 research projects with total funding of INR. 234.6 Lakhs. The department has 100 publications published under their name.

Why Automobile Engineering

Started in the year 2011, the department offers B.Tech programmes in Automobile engineering, M.Tech. programme in Automotive Systems Engineering and M.Tech programme in Manufacturing Engineering the department of automobile engineering closely working with the industry experts from the companies like Ford, Hyundai, BMW, Ashok Leyland ,TAFE etc to prepare the students industry ready . The department is known for its excellent corporate relations with industry giants like Ford Motors, Tractors and Farm Equipment (TAFE) and so on..The department always strives for excellence in advanced research and “Centre of Advanced Machining”, which is the research aspect of the department is sponsored by the Department of Atomic Energy – Board of Research in Nuclear Science (DAE-BRNS), Mumbai, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climatic Change (MOEFC) and UCG-DAE. The programme is accredited by ABET (USA), an international accreditation body for engineering and technical education. The Department of Automobile Engineering puts massive efforts to deliver uncomparable automobile engineering education using advanced teaching pedagogy and learning support for undergraduate students. The department provides state of the art research infrastructure for postgraduate candidates. The faculty of the B.Tech- Automobile Engineering motivates students to think out of the box as a practice which resulted in winning several awards in competitions. The B.Tech Automobile engineering programme is offered in collaboration with SIEMENS.

Why Aeronautical Engineering

The Department of Aeronautical Engineering was established in 2017. It provides students with a practical learning experience with state-of-the-art laboratories, experienced faculty members and thought-provoking teaching pedagogy. The department offers a B.Tech degree program in Aeronautical Engineering. AICTE approves the programme. The faculty of the B.Tech-Aeronautical Engineering motivates students to think out of the box regularly, resulting in the development of Eco Bricks and Acoustic Enclosure. Considering all the practical learning requirements, the department has state-of-the-art laboratories like Solid Propulsion research Laboratory and Aerospace Materials Laboratory funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Aeronautical Research and Development Board (ARDB). Laying emphasis more on research, the department currently has funded research projects in Supersonic Combustion (SCRAMJET) and Dual Combustion Ramjet (DCR) Engine. In addition to the academic laboratories, students are also encouraged to experience the funded research laboratories to overview the research ecosystem. The department has collaborated with Winkalam- The space initiative Education, Chennai, to offer in-plant training to the students of B.Tech Aeronautical engineering. At Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education, we believe in the practical nature of the domain and focus on learning by doing it practically. Focusing on the practical exposure of the students, the department has an active Aero Club and Student Chapters of major professional bodies like Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Students are regularly participating in the “National and International events”. The curriculum and the content are prepared and approved by the experts from IITs, DRDO, ISRO etc. Most of the students from the B.Tech Aeronautical programme are doing their final year Project/ internships at industries/ International universities for a semester.

Why Civil Engineering

The Department of Civil Engineering was started in the year 1984 and currently offers B.Tech. programme in Civil Engineering and M.Tech. Programme in Structural Engineering and Environmental Engineering. Besides, the department also offers Ph.D. programmes in all disciplines of Civil Engineering. The department has grown tremendously over the past thirty years and is now recognized as one of the major engineering departments in KARE. The department has excellent infrastructure with ICT enabled, smart and video capturing class rooms, well established laboratories, department library, Seminar halls, and Lecture halls. The department houses Faculty members with PhD degree from NUS, IITs, Anna University and reputed institutions and foreign exposure in structural, environmental, water resources, transportation and construction engineering & management. The Department of Civil Engineering puts all efforts to create competent civil engineers using advanced teaching practises and learning aids for undergraduate students and state of the art research facilities for postgraduate students and doctoral candidates.

The department designs the curriculum and syllabi regularly keeping in mind the industries requirements and imparts sound technical knowledge through theory and practical classes to the students. In addition, the students are given industrial training in leading industries and encouraged to participate in co-curricular and extracurricular activities to develop their overall personality. The department is frequently organizing conferences, seminars, guest lectures, workshops, symposiums and training programmes for the betterment of the students. Since inception, the department has been producing civil engineering graduates with outstanding skills and has been achieving good placement records in reputed organizations in India and abroad. The department is marching forward to achieve excellence in every area of specialisation in civil engineering and aims to provide international training and placement to all civil engineering students.
