Overview

The Department of Civil Engineering was started in the year 1984 and currently offers B.Tech. programme in Civil Engineering and M.Tech. Programme in Structural Engineering and Environmental Engineering. Besides, the department also offers Ph.D. programmes in all disciplines of Civil Engineering. The department has grown tremendously over the past thirty years and is now recognized as one of the major engineering departments in KARE. The department has excellent infrastructure with ICT enabled, smart and video capturing class rooms, well established laboratories, department library, Seminar halls, and Lecture halls. The department houses Faculty members with PhD degree from NUS, IITs, Anna University and reputed institutions and foreign exposure in structural, environmental, water resources, transportation and construction engineering & management. The Department of Civil Engineering puts all efforts to create incomparable civil engineers using advanced teaching practises and learning aids for undergraduate students and state of the art research facilities for postgraduate students and doctoral candidates.

The department designs the curriculum and syllabi regularly keeping in mind the industries requirements and imparts sound technical knowledge through theory and practical classes to the students. In addition, the students are given industrial training in leading industries and encouraged to participate in co-curricular and extracurricular activities to develop their overall personality. The department is frequently organizing conferences, seminars, guest lectures, workshops, symposiums and training programmes for the betterment of the students. Since inception, the department has been producing civil engineering graduates with outstanding skills and has been achieving good placement records in reputed organizations in India and abroad. The department is marching forward to achieve excellence in every area of specialisation in civil engineering and aims to provide international training and placement to all civil engineering students.

Academics

Environmental protection is an important issue for society today as scientific research provides evidence of increasing air pollution and the pollution of surface and ground water resources. Students will learn how to design and develop processes and equipments that provide practical solutions to problems caused by increasing consumption and waste, and the potential threats to biodiversity. Projects include learning how to clean up toxic material that has seeped into the ground and designing an effective wastewater treatment plant. Efforts to prevent problems before they occur are the main challenge environmental engineers are exposed to.

Our graduates have found employment in engineering consultancies, environmental agencies, government departments, and as designers and advisors for engineering projects.

Program Educational Objectives (PEO)

I enjoyed my life as a student at Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education was beautiful. My campus life has been
full of motivation, creation, excitement and enjoyment. I got a chance to meet many peoples all
over India in my campus. The Department curriculum was well advanced, updated, very
interesting and extraordinary. I got a chance to learn many things in my campus. I enjoyed the
extra curricular activities. In my campus my lovable place was central Library, It was amazing and there were Millions of books available. Professors are well dedicated, well wisher and to help the students to achieve their future goals. Professors are well guided the students to get the good CGPA in curriculum. I enjoyed the NSS camp in village. I take this as an opportunity to thank my Professors who always make me as a Good Engineer in Chennai Metropolitan Water supply and Sewerage Board. Overall It was ideal world for learning and enjoyment.

My Life as a student at Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education was great and a memory to cherish for lifetime. My campus life has been full of excitement and inspiration. It allowed me a chance to meet very interesting peoples and learned many things. The Department’s Curriculum was well updated and unsurpassed. In my final year, with the direction and support from my guides, my team had published our work in an renounced scientific Journal. Which motivated me to pursue Master’s. During my last year I appeared for campus interview and got 3 offer letters from the companies. Professors are passionate and always give their 100% to help students to achieve their future goals. Our Institution played a crucial role in my life. It helped in my personality development and helped me to gain knowledge by providing best faculties and other facilities.The department conducted many domain specific activities to enrich my skills such as conducting workshopsby industrial experts and Symposiums. The faculty members were very much focused to deliver us content and made us easy to know more. All the faculty mentors were very dedicated towards their work and help us in everything.They also helped us gain knowledge in general things also and they were really very supportive.
They assisted well in placement and training and many classes were conducted to improve our skills, which helped me to get placed in my Core company. The University has more opportunities to develop our career, to do research in any stream. The main amenities are that the college has fully furnished well equipped centralized library with numerous research paper, journals and books.
