To be a Centre of Excellence in Civil Engineering through Quality Education and Research.
(a) To produce Civil Engineers of high caliber, technical skills and ethical values to serve society and nation
(b) To inculcate acumen for lifelong learning, research and capability to adapt to various challenges in the domain of civil engineering
(c) To practice ethics and provide sustainable environment conscious solutions to problems in civil engineering
The Department of Civil Engineering was started in the year 1984 and currently offers B.Tech. programme in Civil Engineering and M.Tech. Programme in Structural Engineering and Environmental Engineering. Besides, the department also offers Ph.D. programmes in all disciplines of Civil Engineering. The department has grown tremendously over the past thirty years and is now recognized as one of the major engineering departments in KARE. The department has excellent infrastructure with ICT enabled, smart and video capturing class rooms, well established laboratories, department library, Seminar halls, and Lecture halls. The department houses Faculty members with PhD degree from NUS, IITs, Anna University and reputed institutions and foreign exposure in structural, environmental, water resources, transportation and construction engineering & management. The Department of Civil Engineering puts all efforts to create incomparable civil engineers using advanced teaching practises and learning aids for undergraduate students and state of the art research facilities for postgraduate students and doctoral candidates.
The department designs the curriculum and syllabi regularly keeping in mind the industries requirements and imparts sound technical knowledge through theory and practical classes to the students. In addition, the students are given industrial training in leading industries and encouraged to participate in co-curricular and extracurricular activities to develop their overall personality. The department is frequently organizing conferences, seminars, guest lectures, workshops, symposiums and training programmes for the betterment of the students. Since inception, the department has been producing civil engineering graduates with outstanding skills and has been achieving good placement records in reputed organizations in India and abroad. The department is marching forward to achieve excellence in every area of specialisation in civil engineering and aims to provide international training and placement to all civil engineering students.
Environmental protection is an important issue for society today as scientific research provides evidence of increasing air pollution and the pollution of surface and ground water resources. Students will learn how to design and develop processes and equipments that provide practical solutions to problems caused by increasing consumption and waste, and the potential threats to biodiversity. Projects include learning how to clean up toxic material that has seeped into the ground and designing an effective wastewater treatment plant. Efforts to prevent problems before they occur are the main challenge environmental engineers are exposed to.
Our graduates have found employment in engineering consultancies, environmental agencies, government departments, and as designers and advisors for engineering projects.

Program Educational Objectives (PEO)
1. Graduates will be able to provide solutions in the field of structural engineering
by adapting latest techniques and practices.
2. Graduates will be able to contribute towards research and provide cost effective
and environment friendly solutions to the problems in structural engineering.
3. Graduates will contribute towards societal development by adapting professional
attitude and ethics.
PROGRAM OUTCOMES (POs)
1. An ability to independently carry out research /investigation and development
work to solve practical problems.
2. An ability to write and present a substantial technical report/document.
3. Students should be able to demonstrate a degree of mastery over the area as per the specialization of the program. The mastery should be at a level higher than the requirements in the appropriate bachelor program.
4. An ability to evaluate, analyze and synthesize existing and new knowledge in structural design
5. An ability in lifelong learning independently for professional advancement, demonstrate professional ethics, work culture and understanding of responsibility to contribute to community for sustainable development of society through the obtained knowledge of Structural Engineering
My college days were awesome at Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education. I happened to get acquainted with many things apart from studies which really shaped up my personality. Professors were so gentle and it was quite a halcyon period. I have got an opportunity to develop my skills as the student by organizing symposium. The entire faculty and other members of this university are very co operative. They motivated and encouraged me to face the risks and learn new things. The time i have spent here is paving the way towards fruitful and enriching career.
Now again the days remainds me of the colourful stage, the vibrant class rooms and the super supportive faculty. The college enhanced the creativity in me and made me realize my hidden talent. I am grateful that i had this college as the stepping stone of my career life.
