School of Electronics, Electrical and Biomedical Technology (SEET)

The school of Electrical and Electronics Technology is envisioned to be a centre for academic excellence and higher learning in the various advanced fields of Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering and Instrumentation Engineering. The School and its courses are fully blended by research and innovation in tune with the emerging technological advancements.
This School offers two programmes in B.Tech and two programmes in M.Tech with a full capability in Resarch and Development.

Why Electronics and Communication Engineering

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering established in 1993 is offering B.Tech. Electronics and Communication Engineering, M.Tech. in VLSI Design and Ph.D. programme in various allied fields of Electronics and Communication Engineering. The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering is committed to providing quality professional education to aspiring engineers. The department has well experienced and dedicated faculty members and aims to impart sound knowledge and awareness in the latest trends in the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering. The programme is accredited by NAAC ‘A’ grade, NBA under Tier-I category. The programme is also accredited by ABET, an international accreditation body for engineering and technical education. The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering has collaborated with Nanochip Solutions, Tessolve Semiconductors, National Instruments and Bluetronics to make the students industry ready. The department has the “Centre for VLSI and Signal Processing” sponsored by DST, Government of India under FIST scheme. The department has state-of-art laboratories in tie-up with many industries like, Tessolve Semiconductors, Intel-Altera, Texas Instruments.

TechIgnite: Igniting Curiosity with Fun in Electronics for School Students:

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) at Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education, Virudhunagar, India organized one-day extension / outreach activity, “TechIgnite: Igniting Curiosity with Fun in Electronics for School Students.” on 29th February 2024

This activity engaged and inspired the school students to be in love with the field of electronics. Through hands-on activities and interactive sessions, students had the opportunity to explore the fascinating world of electronics in a fun and engaging way. From building simple circuits to understanding the basics of communication systems, this activity was an enriching experience for all participants.

The students from the Government Schools of nearby locations were the attendee of the event. The event was coordinated by Dr. Joesephine Selle J., Dr. Perumal B., Dr. Charles Praveen J, the faculty of the ECE Department.

The students managed to develop 10 innovative products in 5 years. They have also got 23 patents and 55 publications under their name. The students have done wonders in the field of extracurricular activities apart from academics. The students took part in many National and International Events” and bagged lots of medals. The students at the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department are offered a One Credit Course from the Industry People and International Professors. The department invites resource persons from industries and abroad to handle value added courses in order to raise awareness and bring industrial skills to our students (15hours).

Panem chaitanya pavan kumar/ECE received the Best Innovation award in the IIC regional meet at FX Engineering College, Tirunelveli.

SECOND PRIZE in “3 IDIOTS National Level project competition”

Kommula Venu Gopal (Student of 2021-25 Batch B.Tech. Electronics and Communication Engineering at Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education, Tamilnadu, India) and his team received 2nd prize (₹20000) for their project titled “An Affordable Semi-Automated Food Feeding System for Disabled People” in the 3 IDIOTS National Level project competition organized by Vellammal College of Engineering, Madurai held on 31st January 2024.

FIRST PRIZE in the EPITOME ’24-a Hackathon’

The fourth year students of B.Tech. ECE bagged the first prize in the EPITOME ’24-a hackathon conducted by the Skill Development Committee of Gokaraju Rangaraju Institute of Engineering and Technology, Hyderabad on 1st and 2nd March 2024.

Why Electrical and Electronics Engineering

Established in 1992, the department is synonymous with excellence for its B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, M.Tech in Renewable Energy Technologies and a full fledged PhD program. The department has undertaken major research projects funded by DST, IE(I) and IEEE and known for having established collaboration with leading industries and reputed education institutions to undertake joint research projects. Maintaining the level of excellence, we are now establishing a Smart Grid laboratory under DST-FIST (Level-1) scheme. The department has always proved its metal in academics and is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) under Tier-I category. The B.Tech (Electrical and Electronics Engineering) programme also got accredited by ABET. The curriculum of the B.Tech. Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) programme is intended to strike a balance between the scope of knowledge gained through specialisation and the breadth of knowledge gained through exploration. The programme offers a thorough grounding in the core topics of EEE, as well as a specialisation specific to emerging engineering and technological challenges.The programme is designed to develop trained electrical and computer engineers capable of working in core electrical engineering, information and communication systems, and other related fields.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering was established in the year 1992.
Presently the department is offering B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and
M.Tech in Renewable Energy Technologies. In addition to that the department is offering
Ph.D. program also. The department has been accredited by National Board of Accreditation
(NBA) under Tier-I category for a period of three years (2017-20). The department has
undertaken research projects funded by DST, IE(I) and IEEE. The department has
established collaborative with leading industries and reputed education institutions to
undertake joint research work. The department is establishing the Smart Grid laboratory
under DST-FIST (Level-1) scheme.

Why Electrical and Electronics Engineering
at Kalasalingam ?

  • Faculty members of EEE department are involved in research in addition to teaching.
    The areas of research include Power system Optimization, Power System Security,
    Voltage Stability, Power Quality, Power System Operation and Control, Power
    System Planning, Load Forecasting, Power Electronics application in Embedded
    System, Image Processing, Neural networks and Evolutionary Computation
    techniques.
  • Faculty members have published more than 350 research papers in National and
    International Journals and conferences.
  • Established “Power Systems Automation” in the year 2002 under TIFAC-CORE
    PROJECT.
  • The EEE Department had organized several national and international conferences /
    seminar / workshop / short term courses sponsored by funding agencies like CSIR,
    DRDO, DST-SERB, ISTE, IEEE, etc.
  • The Department has close interaction with leading industries in our country. Many
    projects have been carried out in association with leading industries including ABB
    Ltd, TNEB, Ramco Cements, Fenner, India Cements, TVS, DRDO, TTPS, Mcnold
    Transformers, BHEL, Keltron, Orbit controls, Alstom, Pentasoft, etc. Many
    Consultancy Projects have been carried out to cater to the needs of nearby industries.
  • Short term courses are offered to the students to enhance the employability skill on
    Matlab, Embedded processor, LaTeX.
  • Students are given exposure to current trends including embedded controller design,
    neural networks, Genetic algorithm etc through seminars, and guest lectures by the
    field experts.
  • The students are given hands on training on PLC, SCADA-RTU, Energy
    Conservation and Electromagnetic Transient simulation through short term courses
    and workshops.
  • Seminar and Workshop have been conducted regularly on Renewable Energy
    Conservation &Energy Management, Renewable Energy Sources to create energy
    awareness among the students.
  • The faculty takes keen interest to provide the necessary counseling, coaching and
    guidance to the students to shape their carrier aspiration through competitive like
    GATE, CAT and GRE.
  • Department Magazine is released every year regularly.
  • The Department NSS regularly conduct extension activities like Blood donation camp
    in association with Meenakshi mission hospital.
  • Non-CGPA courses are offered to improve the performance of the students in the
    extracurricular and co-curricular activities.

Why Electronic Instrumentation Engineering

Instrumentation and Control Engineering play a vital role in any modern industry. The Department of Instrumentation and Control Engineering started in the year 1987. The Department of Instrumentation and Control Engineering offers B.Tech degree course in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, M.Tech degree courses in the following specializations viz., Control and Instrumentation and Ph.D program. The department has established the laboratories namely Instrumentation lab, Analog and Digital Circuits Lab, Virtual Instrumentation Lab, Process Control Lab. The department has been equipped with the research centers such as Centre for Advanced Process Control and Biomedical Instrumentation. Advanced Process Control Lab, Advanced Biomedical Instrumentation Lab has been setup under DST-FIST program 2009 (Fund for Improvement of S&T Infrastructure in Universities & Higher Educational Institutions).
Our department lab has fundamental instruments of control system and various electronic measurements like, voltage, current, bridge, demonstrative CRO. This lab also has analytical instruments, pH measurement, conductivity measurement, switch capacitor networks etc. Process Control lab has various cut sectional of valve and actuators, cam followers, solenoid valves and many more components & kits of control engineering, DCS, PLC, various process stations like heat exchanger, hybrid tank and has many kits like P, PI, PID controllers, DAS etc. The biomedical lab has well advanced ECG and EEG monitoring equipments with lab chart software. The department is currently having the funded research projects in the areas of Process Control and Biomedical Instrumentation. The department has close interactions with the leading industries for research and development. The Instrumentation and Control Engineering department has made pioneering and definite contributions in the thrust areas of Control Systems, Optimization, Biomedical, Image Processing, Fault diagnosis, Process Control, Communication.
The department caters to the ever challenging needs of technical excellence in all areas of Instrumentation & Control Engineering such as Electronics, Electrical, and Mechanical measurements, Process Control Engineering. Our students will make their presence felt in various technological domains in all the top-level industries. The infrastructure and lab facilities are upgraded from time to time and provide adequate opportunities for students and researchers to learn and innovate.
Department is having great encouraging and warm support of Instrumentation industries and medical hospitals in various aspects, related to syllabus designing, student and staff training and other technical support. Guided by excellent faculty, the Instrumentation and Control Engineering department has grown leaps and bounds since its establishment and its students have brought laurels to the institution. Instrumentation and Control Engineering Students Association arranges seminars, Conference industrial visits, co-curricular activities etc., thereby increasing the interaction of students with the outside world.

Why Biomedical Engineering

Established in the year 2015-16 with an aim of creating skilled leaders for the modern health care industry, the department of Biomedical Engineering offers B.Tech Programme in Biomedical Engineering. This branch of engineering covers the application of engineering principles and design concepts to medicine and biology for healthcare purposes. This emerging field seeks to close the gap between engineering and medicine, combining the design and problem-solving skills of engineering with medical biological sciences to advance health care treatment, including diagnosis, monitoring, and therapy. The syllabus is thoughtfully designed and systematically aligned to the growing requirements of the healthcare industry. The department has experienced and trained faculty to impart knowledge in this specialized field. The programme is accredited by ABET, an international accreditation body for engineering and technical education.
