Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education (KARE) (Deemed to be University) formerly Arulmigu Kalasalingam College of Engineering was established in 1984 by Kalvivallal Thiru T.Kalasalingam, Founder Chairman who was a freedom fighter and Philanthropist. Kalasalingam is Located at the pristine foothills of scenic Western Ghats of southern Tamilnadu. The college obtained the Deemed to be University status in 2006. The Institution has been serving the society for thirty seven long years and it caters to the needs of the students from all walks of the society. Kalasalingam offers UG programmes, PG programmes and Ph.D programmes in various disciplines of Engineering, Science, Technology and Humanities. It is the first Institution in India to introduce a special B.Tech programme in engineering for the differently able (speech and hearing impaired) students. The Institution has been re-accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ grade with a CGPA of 3.11. Six UG programmes have been accredited by NBA under Tier-1. The Institution continues to do indefatigable work in getting projects and research centers. It has received DST funding to establish the National Center for Advance Research in Discrete Mathematics. Undergraduate B.Sc. Nursing – 4 Year including internship
The B.Sc. nursing degree program is a four-year fulltime
program comprising eight semesters, which prepares a
student to become a registered nurse qualified to practice
in a variety of settings in either public/ government or
private healthcare settings. It adopts credit system and
semester system as per UGC guidelines. The program
encompasses foundational, core and elective courses.
The choice-based system is applicable to electives only
and is offered in the form of modules. Modular learning is
also integrated in the foundational as well as core courses
that are mandatory.
The program prepares nurses for generalist nursing
practice. Knowledge acquisition related to wellness, health promotion, illness, disease management and care of the dying is core to nursing practice. Mastery of
competencies is the main focus. Students are provided
with opportunities to learn a whole range of nursing skills
in addition to acquiring knowledge related to nursing
practice. This is achieved through learning in skill
lab/simulated labs and clinical environment. Simulation
will be integrated throughout the curriculum wherever
feasible to enable them to develop competencies before
entry into real field of nursing practice.
The curriculum embraces competency-based approach
throughout the program integrating mastery learning and
self-directed learning. Through the educational process
the students assimilate and synthesize knowledge,
cultivate critical thinking skills and develop care strategies.
Competencies that reflect practice standards of Indian
Nursing Council (INC) address the areas of cultural
diversity, communication technology, teamwork and
collaboration, safety, quality, therapeutic interventions and
evidence- based practice. They are prepared to provide
safe and competent care to patients across life span and
influence patient outcomes.

The aim of the undergraduate nursing program is:
1. Prepare graduates to assume responsibilities as professional, competent
nurses and midwives at basic level in providing promotive, preventive, curative
and rehabilitative services.
2. Prepare nurses who can make independent decisions in nursing situations,
protect the rights of facilitate individuals and groups in pursuit of health, function
in the hospital, community nursing services and conduct research studies in the areas of nursing practice. They are also expected to assume the role of teacher, supervisor and manager in a clinical / public health setting.
On completion of B.Sc. Nursing degree programme the graduates will be able to:
1. Apply knowledge from physical, biological and behavioral sciences, medicine,
including alternative systems and nursing in providing nursing care to individuals,
families and communities.
2. Demonstrate understanding of life style and other factors, which affect health
of individuals and groups.
3.Provide nursing care based on steps of nursing process in collaboration with
the individuals and groups
4. Demonstrate critical thinking skill in making decisions in all situations in order
to provide quality care.
5. Utilise the latest trends and technology in providing health care.
6. Provide promotive, preventive and restorative health services in line with the
national health policies and programs.
7. Practice within the framework of code of ethics and professional conduct and
