The School of Bio, Chemical and Processing Engineering is mainly focused into four major headings i.e. Biotechnology which offers programmes such as B.tech in Biotechnology and M.Tech in Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering which offers programmes such as B.Tech (Biomedical Engineering), Chemical Engineering which offers programmes such as B.Tech (Chemical Engineering), Medical Lab Technology which offers program of Bachelor of Vocation in Medical Lab Technology and the last major heading is Microbial Technology which offers the programme of M.Sc in Microbial Technology. Some domains are well known to all individuals while some are emerging areas in India. These domains offers great academic curriculum and also the great career opportunities.
These major headings proved to be the centre of excellence through their high quality education curriculum and they opens the pathway for the bright career of the students.
The Department of Biotechnology, is one of the vibrant departments at Kalasalalingam Academy Research and Education. The B.Tech.- Biotechnology has been accredited by NBA as well as ABET. The B.Tech programme in Biotechnology offered by the Department of Biotechnology is fully tailored as per the needs of the biotechnology industry and current trend of research. The course also prepares the ground for graduates to pursue a higher degree in biotechnology, either in India or abroad. Students who want to go straight into a research programme will be able to do so because they will have acquired all of the necessary functional, theoretical and practical skills. The department regularly organizes conferences, seminars, guest lectures, workshops, symposiums and training programmes to maximise the impact of classroom education. Students are encouraged to engage in symposia and conferences in addition to their usual academic activities. Many prizes have been awarded to the students in the B.Tech.- Biotechnology programme in paper presentations and academic quiz competitions held in various colleges. Students are encouraged to participate in the department’s ongoing research activities.
Every year, the students of B.Tech.- Biotechnology programmes are selected for prestigious National Academy of Sciences summer fellowships, and many have spent their summers training in premier laboratories in India. The department of Biotechnology has 194 publications under their name(2014- present). The department has five separate teaching laboratories as well as a centralised instrumentation facility that houses advanced equipment for both students and faculty. Fermentor, thermocycler, gel-documentation system, deep Freeze, liquid Chromatography system, Sonicator, UV-VIS Spectrophotometer, ultrafiltration unit, and microplate readers are among the equipment available at the facility.
The main goal of the department is to make sure that the graduates of the B.Tech.-Biotechnology programme are able to achieve a general level of competence in order to undertake advanced courses and/or obtain specific training and skills applicable to their chosen career. The B.Tech graduates accept the responsible roles in academia, industry, and law in order to contribute to society and also demonstrate strong managerial skills, as well as a desire to learn and update themselves on a continuous basis. Our programme puts a focus on hands-on teaching. The department has six separate teaching laboratories such as: Microbiology and Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering, Bioprocess Technology, Immunology, Biochemical Engineering and Downstream Processing to hold practical sessions.
Established in the year 2015-16 with an aim of creating skilled leaders for the modern health care industry, the department of Biomedical Engineering offers B.Tech Programme in Biomedical Engineering. This branch of engineering covers the application of engineering principles and design concepts to medicine and biology for healthcare purposes. This emerging field seeks to close the gap between engineering and medicine, combining the design and problem-solving skills of engineering with medical biological sciences to advance health care treatment, including diagnosis, monitoring, and therapy. The syllabus is thoughtfully designed and systematically aligned to the growing requirements of the healthcare industry. The department has experienced and trained faculty to impart knowledge in this specialized field. The programme is accredited by ABET, an international accreditation body for engineering and technical education. The Department of Biomedical Engineering puts massive efforts to deliver uncomparable Biomedical engineering education using advanced teaching pedagogy and learning support for undergraduate students. The department provides state of the art research infrastructure for the students. The faculty of the B.Tech- Biomedical Engineering motivates studentsCurricu to think out of the box on a regular basis which results in many students achieved in state level and national level.
Established in the year 2014, the department of Chemical Engineering currently offers B.Tech Programme in Chemical Engineering. Chemical engineering is the broadest branch of engineering, educating professionals to design, produce, operate, and monitor chemical industry processes, as well as the production of chemical processes for transforming raw materials or chemicals into useful forms, such as those used to extract chemicals from waste materials, in order to allow large-scale manufacturing. Chemical engineering is at the cross roads of molecular science and engineering. it is inextricably tied to the core topics of physics, mathematics, chemistry and biology, as well as other engineering fields such as mechanical, civil, electrical, metallurgy, safety, computer science engineering, along with technology fields including pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and food processing. It includes a wide range of chemical technology fields such as mineral-based manufacturing, petrochemical plants, pharmaceuticals, synthetic fibres, petroleum processing plants, and so on. The syllabus is thoughtfully designed and systematically aligned to the global standards emphasising the fundamentals, the scope of the discipline, and the necessary flexibility in applying the fundamentals in a broad range of contexts. The department has experienced and trained faculty to impart knowledge in this specialised field.
Food Technology has been identified as the sunrise industry due to its enormous impact & significance in the Indian development sector. The importance of food processing &quality control lies in the fact that it has the capability to provide food to our
population through scientific conservations, eliminating available losses and making available more balanced & nutritious food. The Department of Food Technology was established in the year 2015 towards the objective to provide
excellent teaching, practical training facilities in the frontier areas of Food Technology.
The School of Bio, Chemical and Processing Engineering (SBCE) offers B. Tech. (Agricultural Engineering) in the year 2016. This programme is designed to provide engineering expertise in the field of agriculture and allied sectors. Students learn on various specializations including Farm Machinery, Soil and Water Conservation, Food Processing, Irrigation and Drainage, and Bio Energy. The curriculum adheres to the report of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Fifth Deans’ Committee. The SBCE puts massive efforts to deliver incomparable agricultural engineering education using advanced teaching pedagogy and learning support for undergraduate students. B. Tech. (Agricultural Engineering) programme is approved by AICTE and UGC, New Delhi and provides excellent career opportunities in product engineering, equipment research and design, facility design, environmental consultancy, and engineering management in the ever-expanding field of agricultural advancements.
