Kalasalingam School of Architecture (KSOA) started with the aim to provide world-class learning environment in architectural design; in the deeper areas of South Tamilnadu. The Kalasalingam School of Architecture offers five years full-time Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) and two years full-time Master of architecture in Habitat Design (M.Arch). The institution started in 2012 with the approval of Council of Architecture, New Delhi.
The school is located in a scenic location along the foothills of Western Ghats. Strategic location and the natural landscape provides for a conveniently accessible and soothing environment for highly demanding architectural design students. The school is equipped with state of art infrastructure facilities such as smart class rooms, designed work spaces, studios, and library.
Renowned veterans of architectural design education direct our KSOA. The team includes experienced academicians with global and national exposure. We deliver promising up-to-date knowledge and exposure that is demanded by the thriving creative industry. Hands on experience, established design studio work and traditional class room teaching are part of this course. Adding to it, a semester long International Experience through our outstanding study abroad programs are available.
The Academic program is of five years divided into ten Semesters of about 90 working days each. The Program is designed comprehensively with clear links across the simultaneous subjects as well as progressively across the years. Instruction are given both in class room as well as workshop/outdoor – based as per the subject area. Related study programs such as field trips, practical experience, choice of elective subjects also form an essential part of the course.

At the end of the programme, the students will
1. Understanding of established concepts, theories and fundamentals that form the primary knowledge base of the architectural profession.
2. Demonstrating a meaningful analysis and application of the same towards solving various issues and problems of the built environment.
3. Training towards developing the various graphical communication skills of architecture such as architectural drawing, presentation techniques and architectural drafting: both manual and computer aided.
4. Training in the usage of various techniques and tools of the different laboratories of climatology, building materials, model making, surveying and construction techniques.
5. Demonstrate knowledge of architectural theory and design methodology in the solution of architectural design problems in a global society.
6. Understanding the structural concepts and behavior of structural elements and relate the knowledge acquired to architectural design.
7. A sound knowledge base to enable the student to be industry/profession ready through courses on professional practice, urban economics, estimation and surveying and an opportunity to learn through apprenticeship.
8. Understanding of national traditions and the local/ regional heritage in architecture, landscape design, and urban design, including the vernacular tradition.
9. Ability to plan and prepare a comprehensive program for an architectural project and design assessment criteria.
10. Understanding of the principles of sustainability in making architecture and urban design decisions that conserve natural and built resources, including culturally important buildings and sites, and in the creation of sustainable buildings and communities.
11. Engage in the process of design and building in the discourse of social, ethical and professional responsibility.
