The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering was instituted in the year 1993 to start a 4-year B.E. degree programme affiliated to the Madurai Kamarajar University by the then Arulmigu Kalasalingam College of Engineering. The first batch of students graduated from the department in the year 1997. A post graduate programme in ‘Digital Communication and Networking’ was introduced in the year 2001. Both the programmes affiliation were shifted to Anna University in 2002 by the Tamilnadu Government. The department was recognized as research centre in 2003 to offer PhD programmes in Electronics and Communication Engineering. In the year 2004, approval was obtained for introducing the second post graduate programme in ‘VLSI Design’. The department became a part of Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education (Kalasalingam University) after the institution’s Deemed-to-be-University status in 2007.

After 2007, to cope-up the changes in technologies the department is having major changes in its programmes syllabi every 3 years. The B.Tech. Programme got provisionally accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) under Tier-I category as per Washington Accord in the year 2015 and got re-accredited in the year 2018.. The University has been accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC)with ‘A’ grade with GPA of 3.11 out of 4-point scale.

For the benefit of the students, the department offers advanced topics in the form of technical seminars, hands-on workshops and value-added courses by Industrial and other reputed Institutional experts.

The department, headed by experienced professors and industry experienced lecturers aims at inculcating students with sound knowledge and awareness in the latest trends in electronics and communication engineering.

Keeping in line with the fast-emerging technologies, the department incorporates all the technical advancements in the form of a well-designed, constantly reviewed syllabus. The well-furnished laboratories complement the high standards set by the competitive syllabus and nurture the inclination of the students towards research and development, besides giving them the necessary and sufficient backing of practical knowledge that they need. The department has the “Centre for VLSI and Signal Processing” sponsored by DST under FIST scheme. The department has state-of-art laboratories in tie-up with many industries like, Tessolve, Intel, Altera, Analog Instruments, Texas.
