VISION

To meet an expanding demand of Agricultural specialists to promote food security and food safety on National and Global scale.  To create a knowledge base in Agriculture, Horticulture and allied sciences relevant to make the Second Green Revolution a reality especially in dry land pockets of India. To prepare the young generation ready to face challenges of increasing the production and income of future farms.

MISSION

The mission of Kalasalingam School of Agriculture and Horticulture (KSAH) is to set the career trajectory of Agricultural and Horticultural professionals by imparting theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills in Agricultural, Horticultural and allied sciences by way of well defined degree courses in each discipline.  The curricular/ research programmes are to be continually designed and improved periodically to cater the needs of the farmer and food industry. The school will constantly promote the quality of teaching and research by way of strategies and resources relevant to futuristic needs.

Overview

Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education (KARE), Krishnankoil, Tamil Nadu is a deemed to be University offering education, research and extension in a plethora of subjects ranging from engineering, science, education, agriculture and management. Kalasalingam School of Agriculture and Horticulture is a constituent in-campus offering B.Sc., (Hons.) Horticulture was commenced in 2016 with strength of 60 students.  This course is a professional four year courses complying with the recommendations of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi.
The school provides students technical expertise and a broad education so that they can meet the challenges of feeding the world, improving health, protecting the environment, growing our economy, and enriching youth. Abilities to think creatively and critically solving problems, making decisions and communicating effectively are developed. All the faculties of the school possess doctoral qualifications and render quality education. Extensive laboratory infrastructure is available in KARE which is shared by the Kalasalingam School of Agriculture and Horticulture too. Exclusive and well equipped laboratories to cater the need of the above specific program have also been created and are growing in leaps and bounds. Large 300 acres both garden land and wet land and 60 acres orchard are available to train the students in the real field giving them a practical experience and hands on training. Apart from the regular curriculum, the prospective students have a structured set of non-credit courses which are not included for the final score of the course but mandatory to the degree’s completion. All India Study Tour, Industrial trainings, Rural Horticultural Work Experience (RHWE), NSS, NCC, sports, language courses, soft skills, etc are some of the highlights they can avail in this segment.

The B.Sc., (Hons.) Horticulture is planned to prepare students in horticultural sciences such as Crop management, Crop improvement, Crop protection, Natural resource management, Agricultural Economics and Extension. The curriculum is built on excellent foundation of basic prerequisites and moulds the student into a full-fledged horticultural professional at the end of the course tenure. Excellent career opportunities do exist for these graduates in private and governmental firms to work as Horticultural officers, specialist officers in banks, farm managers, seed quality inspectors, plant protection experts, economic/ marketing advisors/ forecasters and agri – horti entrepreneur.
The above program provides ample opportunity for the graduates to enter academics and research nationally / globally after continuing higher studies in the areas of their interest.  The degree offers employment not only in the subject oriented positions, but also in sectors such as banks and civil services.

Achievements of KSAH

1. Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education (KARE) believed in building and promoting excellent infrastructures and well-established laboratory facilities across all the disciplines of Agriculture and Horticulture for all our students.

2. KARE believed in offering quality education to its students through a well-qualified and trained teaching fraternity.

3. KARE has been offered grants to Kalasalingam School of Agriculture and Horticulture (KSAH) from time to time for doing research in the field of Agriculture and Horticulture. The KSAH also received a grant amount of Rs.20,41,600 from the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Ministry of India, New Delhi, for the project titled “Scientometric Assessment of Research Trends in Precision Agriculture: Global and Indian Perspectives”, received a grant amount of Rs.77,35,000 from TNSCST, Tamil Nadu, for the project titled “Polyhouse and Training” and received a grant amount of 2.6 Crores from DST-STI HUB New-Delhi for the project titled “Establishment of STI HUB for production of eco-friendly and economical products to improve the socio-economic status of SC population of Srivilliputtur Block”.

4. KSAH also signed MoU with INAGRU – Colombia, UNAM – Mexico, CICY – Mexico, S. K. Green Traders Pvt. Ltd, India and JEYPEE Biotech, India for doing research and development activities during 2020-21.

5. More research articles and reviews have been published in reputed National and International Journals related to agricultural and allied sciences.

6. In the recently organized Virtual International Conference on “Innovations in Interdisciplinary Research”, held during June 23 & 24, 2020, Eight keynote speakers from renowned academic institutions and 35 participants from the reputed Colleges and Universities presented technical papers during the conference.

7. KSAH has hosted a webinar on “Get ready for ICAR all India entrance examination for pursuing PG” from time to time for the benefits of student’s career development.

8. Faculty and students of KSAH have participated/presented in various National / International Workshops / Seminars / Symposiums / Conferences to enrich their knowledge.

Academics

This programme provides and develops an ability to apply acquired knowledge of horticultural sciences to real-world problems concerning processing, safety, and management of horticultural production systems. The ability to do research, analyse, schedule, design, and execute a horticultural production system, including pre & post-production activities. The programme facilitates to acquire the ability for conducting experiments, innovate the advanced systems and processes that can benefit the horticultural sectors as a whole.

Research Based Approach

B.Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture in KSAH is focused and involved in research-based studies and the KARE has been offered grants to KSAH from time to time to conduct the research and development actives along with the various funding agencies including DST, New Delhi and TNSCST, Tamil Nadu.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • A Pass in Higher Secondary(+2 / Intermediate) of State Board, CBSE, any other Board of Education recognized by State and Central Government with an aggregate of 50% and above in Mathematics,Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Physics, Chemistry, Biology with a fourth (elective) subject viz., Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry and Home Science./ Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology
  • Lateral Entry: For Lateral Entry programs, a Diploma course in the relevant field of specialization with an average of 60% marks in the pre-final and final semester is a must.

SELECTION PROCESS

  • Selection will be done on the basis of Kalasalingam Common Entrance Examination and merit considering 10+2 marks.

  • Admission is through counselling based on the marks obtained in Kalasalingam Common Entrance Examination.

  • Photograph Image: A Recent Passport Size Photograph ( in .jpg format with Maximum size 80 KB).
  • Signature Image: Size should be between 10KB to 200 KB with the dimension of 3.5 CM X 1.5 CM.
  • **For Photograph, the background must be plain white or off-white. The Head must be directly facing the camera with your full face in view. No hats or head coverings, unless you wear them daily for religious purposes. Your full face must be visible and your head covering cannot cast shadows on your face.
