To serve the economically and socially backward children of our country and help them communicate fluently in English and instil confidence into them to take up lucrative positions so as to help them reach greater heights in their respective community.

Overview

The Department of English offers M.A. from 2015. The programme aims at instilling the love for language and literature in students. It imparts penchant for aesthetic works of art. The curriculum provides a huge scope for the Post Graduate students to hone themselves in Advanced English Grammar, British Literature, Study of the English Language, Indian Literature in English, Principles of Literary Criticism, American Literature, Popular Fiction, Modern Journalism, Women’s Writing in English, Shakespeare, Teaching of English & Research methodology, Current Literary trends, Common Wealth Literature, Comparative Literature, Literature in Translation, Subaltern Studies.

Academic

The Department offers two papers in the first year for every B Tech programme. The two papers are: English for Technical Communication Paper I and English for Technical Communication Paper II. Paper I is offered in the First Semester and Paper II is offered in the Second Semester. Care has been taken to prepare the syllabuses for these two papers with the need of the time and the need of the industry in mind. A lot of technical communication input is given in the syllabus so that the Engineering students gain sufficient communication proficiency so as to help them to learn their other papers without difficulty and at the same time equip themselves fully for the employment that they take up at the end of their programme.

The two papers that the Department offers is just a tip of the ice-berg. The Department assists the University in diverse ways. These include offering Special Training Programme in the Third Year and Fourth Year to the B Tech programme students. Communication Skills and Soft Skills are the major components in these skill set programmes. The Department also offers Fine-tuning presentations to the MBA students and thus hones their communication competencies.

Another service that the Faculty of English offers is Thesis Correction and Research Paper Correction. Theses and research papers of fellow faculty members pass through the hands of the English faculty so that the language errors are eliminated and the research outputs of the campus scholars get submission-worthy.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Candidates who have already obtained a bachelor’s degree in English Literature discipline with minimum 50% marks are eligible to apply for admission to the M. A. English Literature programme offered by Kalasalingam University.

SELECTION PROCESS

  • The applicants to the programme will have to qualify in the Kalasalingam University Post Graduate Entrance Examination (KLUPGEE) conducted in the month of May of that academic year by the University. The candidates qualified in the KLUPGEE will be called for group discussion and interview and the final selection will be based on the marks obtained in the entrance test.

  • COUNSELLING
  • The Post-graduate Admissions Committee constituted by the Chairman, Academic Council will decide on the operational aspects of selection of candidates based on the criteria laid down by the Academic Council.

  • Login with your registration details sent to your Email / Mobile number.
  • Provide all relevant details carefully, before submission.
  • Step 3: Photo and Signature Upload
  • Photograph Image: A Recent Passport Size Photograph ( in .jpg format with Maximum size 80 KB).
  • Signature Image: Size should be between 10KB to 200 KB with the dimension of 3.5 CM X 1.5 CM.
  • **For Photograph, the background must be plain white or off-white. The Head must be directly facing the camera with your full face in view. No hats or head coverings, unless you wear them daily for religious purposes. Your full face must be visible and your head covering cannot cast shadows on your face.
  • Step 4: Mode Of Payment
  • Online Mode through Netbanking / Credit / Debit card/UPI. Application Cost (Rs: 600) – for General Candidates.
  • NRI students – USD 35 can pay through online.
