 »Guest Lecture on “Next Generation Enterprise Systems And RFID”

The IEEE student branch of Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education, Krishnankoil organized a guest lecture on “Next Generation Enterprise Systems and RFID” on 30th October 2010. The lecture was delivered by Mr.T.S.Rangarajan, Principal consultant, TCS, Chennai and Vice Chairman, IEEE Madras Section.D.Devaraj, IEEE Student Branch counselor, Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education welcomed the gathering and Mr.S.Arun Kumar Student Chairman introduced the guest. Around 250 students from CSE, ECE, EEE and EIE Departments attended the guest lecture.During the presentation Mr.T.S.Rangarajan explained the present trend in enterprise systems and quoted some examples from google wave. He also mentioned about the ongoing process in TCS regarding the same.On RFID system he spoke the importance of automating the process. He mentioned that RFID can replace the barcode being used in many applications. He enthralled the audience by playing a few videos on RFID based modern retail market.Apart from that he mentioned about the RFID based projects carried out at TCS in recent times. He advised the students to learn more about this technology of the future, and to undertake projects using this technology.At the end of the lecture, the students have attracted with the resource person. Afterwards the branch counselor Dr.D.Devaraj presented a memento to the guest. At the end Ms.Anju Yoga, secretary, proposed the vote of thanks.

 »Guest Lecture on “Avionics and Space Research-An Indian Perspective

The IEEE Student Branch of Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education celebrated the IEEE day on 7th October, 2010.As part of this a guest lecture on ” AVIONICS and Space Research-An Indian Perspective” was organized. The resource person was Shri. T.R.Radhakrishnan Nair, from ISRO INERTIAL SYTEMS UNIT, Trivandrum.The Welcome address was given by Dr.D.Devaraj, R&D Head and IEEE Student Branch counselor of Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education. He spoke about the Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education IEEE Student Branch activities and urged all students to join IEEE.The introduction of the resource person was given by Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education IEEE Student chairman Mr. S. Arun Kumar, 2nd year, M.Tech Embedded systems.The resource person gave a lecture on ” Avionics Equipments used by Indian space launch vehicles and how different testing’s and standards are performed for each systems”.The lecture covered a brief introduction about Gyroscopes principles and its application in the control area. He covered some of the real life experience he had with design, development and testing of some of these devices both in testing conditions and in real flight conditions.

Some of the related topics he covered are on Rate gyro system development, inertial measurement unit devices and navigation systems. The series of testing procedures done on the devices are the main highlight of the talk and on how to maintain reliability of the device with respect to so many changing parameters.The talk covered on the basic difference of components used in ground conditions and on space level conditions and its features. T. Ms Abhinaya of 3rd year B.Tech proposed the vote of Thanks.

 »Guest Lecture on “Space Tribology”

The IEEE Student Branch of Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education organized a guest lecture on “SPACE TRIBOLOGY” on 29th September 2011. The lecture was delivered by Dr.B.Subramaniam, Scientist/Principal Investigator, ISRO Inertial Systems Unit, Thiruvananthapuram.D.Devaraj, IEEE student branch counselor, Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education welcomed the gathering and Mr. R.Radeep Krishna, Assistant Professor, ECE introduced the resource person. Around 100 under graduate students from Mechanical and Instrumentation and Control Engineering departments attended the guest lecture.During the lecture, Dr. B. Subramaniam touched various classifications of ball bearings and its applications. He also covered extensively on various lubrications available to reduce friction. He discussed in detail about frication, classification of frication available in earth and space related equipment.The highlight of this talk is different classification and principles of usage of space tribology. His guest lecture started from tribology in earth and ended in tribology in space. He gave various charts and technical details from NASA catalogs. He advised the students to learn more about this technology for their future research work. At the end of the lecture the students have interacted with the resource person.

 »Guest Lecture On “Non Linear Filtering For Image Processing Techniques”

The IEEE student branch of Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education organized a guest lecture on“Non linear filtering for image processing” on 20th August 2011.The lecture was delivered by Dr. V.R.Vijaya Kumar,Head of the Department,ECE,Anna University of technology,Coimbatore.D.Devaraj, IEEE student branch counselor, Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education welcomed the gathering and Ms.A.Benita Bharathi student chairman introduced the guest. Around 75 post graduate students from CSE, ECE and IT departments attended the guest lecture.

 

During the lecture, Dr.V.R.Vijayakumar gave an overview of various steps involved in image processing applications. Then he explained the importance of filtering in Image Processing applications. He also explained the various transform techniques along with its application in real world. He gave a detailed presentation on various linear and non-linear filtering techniques. He advised the students to learn more about this technology for their future research work. At the end of the lecture the students have interacted with the resource person.
